Return with us now to a look back at a more innocent time. This outstanding collection of vintage films rescued from obscurity features four early examples of selling a product or service to a less hardened audience. It wasnt until 1984 that the first ever modern-day infomercial was created but these films from the 1950s and 1960s delivered a message and attempted to brand an image in American minds. We have lovingly restored these little cinematic gems, and offer them to you for the very first time on DVD. First, from the 1950s comes This Is Roller Skating, a free-wheeling examination of the popular sport that also serves as a promotion tool for a line of skates that were sold by the Ware Brothers. Next, actor Jock MacGregor hosts Science and Your Garden, featuring a look at how to make your greenery great. Then, the stars of Leave It to Beaver teach the importance of saving money in Beaver U.S. Saving Bonds and Stamps. Lastly, 1968's The Noisy Landscape is a film presented by the American Institute of Architects that argues against putting up too many signs in urban areas.
It is no wonder that Inspector Montalbano is Italy's favourite detective, both in print - in Andrea Camilleri's award winning novels - and now on television as inhabited by actor Luca Zingaretti in a role that rivals the finest detectives America and Europe has to offer. In these four irresistible tales, the Inspector is forced to contend with not only murderers, criminals and errant husbands who will do everything to avoid his detection, but local politicians, police bureaucracy, unreliable judges, lethally argumentative mafia families, hysterical wives, psychic and psychotic sisters and so much more. From a discovered body in a buried crime through corrupt charities saving immigrant women, kidnapped horses and dark sexual compulsions, Montalbano has a lot on his plate. But not so much that there isn't room for something sweet, whether in his favourite restaurant or in the privacy of his own home. Episode Comprise: August Flame (La vampa d’Agosto) The Wings of the Sphinx (Le ali della sfinge) Track of Sand (La pista di sabbia) Paper Moon (La luna di carta) Special Features: Andrea Camilleri Biography Picture Gallery
It's The Time Of Your Life That May Last A Lifetime. In his debut film as writer-director, John Hughes immediately cemented himself as the king of teen cinema with Sixteen Candles, and in the process also introduced one of the most iconic faces of ‘80s Americana: Molly Ringwald. For high schooler Samantha Baker (Molly Ringwald), her 16th birthday might be the worst day of her life. Her entire family has forgotten about it due to her older sister’s impending wedding; her biggest crush, high school hunk Jake Ryan (Michael Schoeffling) has discovered an embarrassing “sex quiz” filled out by Sam in which she details how she is saving herself for him; and to make matters worse, she is hounded by a relentless nerd (Anthony Michael Hall) who won’t take no for an answer. But Sam’s sweet sixteen isn’t over yet, and before the end of the night, all her birthday wishes could still come true… Taking the rude and crude humour of the teen sex comedies that came before it and placing it within the intimately portrayed perspective of a girl's mid-teenage-life crisis, Sixteen Candles is a bombshell of 80s pop culture that continues to be debated and beloved over three decades after its release.
