The book gives readers a practical introduction to reactive programming with Actor Model. The reader is given a brief but detailed background on using the Scala programming language and how to program using Scala and the Akka toolkit. After covering the basics and establishing a foundation, the book takes readers through a series of message-based integration cookbook solutions, including: Messaging Systems, Messaging Channels, Message Construction, Message Routing, Message Transportation, Message Endpoints, and System Management. The book follows the proven method presented in ´´Enterprise Integration Patterns´´ by Gregor Hohpe and Bobby Woolf, but gives solutions based on the use of Scala and Akka.

In the first full biography of actor Sidney Poitier, Aram Goudsouzian analyzes the life and career of a Hollywood legend, from his childhood in the Bahamas to his 2002 Oscar for lifetime achievement. Poitier is a gifted actor, a great American success story, an intriguing personality, and a political symbol; his life and career illuminate America´s racial history. In such films as Lilies of the Field, In the Heat of the Night, and Guess Who´s Coming to Dinner, Poitier´s middle-class, mannered, virtuous screen persona contradicted prevailing film stereotypes of blacks as half-wits, comic servants, or oversexed threats. His screen image and public support of nonviolent integration assuaged the fears of a broad political center, and by 1968, Poitier was voted America´s favorite movie star. Through careful readings of every Poitier film, Goudsouzian shows that Poitier´s characters often made sacrifices for the good of whites and rarely displayed sexuality. As the only black leading man during the civil rights era, Poitier chose roles and public positions that negotiated the struggle for dignity. By 1970, times had changed and Poitier was the target of a backlash from film critics and black radicals, as the new heroes of ´´blaxploitation´´ movies reversed the Poitier model. In the 1970s, Poitier shifted his considerable talents toward directing, starring in, and producing popular movies that employed many African Americans, both on and off screen. After a long hiatus, he returned to starring roles in the late 1980s. More recently, the film industry has reappraised his career, and Poitier has received numerous honors recognizing his multi-faceted work for black equality in Hollywood. As this biography affirms, Poitier remains one of American popular culture´s foremost symbols of the possibilities for and limits of racial equality. 1. Language: English. Narrator: J. D. Jackson. Lloyd Nolan: An Actors Life with Meaning , Hörb...

Lloyd Nolan could play any character in any genre and was believable to every role. He was not acting; he was just real. He was Inspector Briggs in The House on 92nd Street and The Street With No Name. He was Dr. Swain in Peyton Place and, even as a bad guy, he was Lt. De Garmot in Lady in the Lake. Nolan´s off-screen life was just as remarkable. He was devoted to his autistic son Jay and, when young Jay died in an accident 2,500 miles away, Lloyd channeled his grief into action. For the rest of his life, he did everything he could to better the lives of disabled people and their families, and such people are still benefitting from the resulting legislation today. This is the story of the two lives of Lloyd Nolan - his prolific on-screen life that is so familiar to moviegoers and television fans alike, and his off-screen life that has positively affected many throughout the country. His was a true Hollywood success story of a role model extraordinaire! 1. Language: English. Narrator: Nat Segaloff. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/012231/bk_acx0_012231_sample.mp3.
