Rich with archive footage and personal reminiscences from family and friends, this Keanu Reeves- narrated documentary shines a light on both the man and the actor, starting with his childhood and military service, through to his early years in the popular 'chanbara' action movies that he would later draw on for a string of masterpieces made with legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. David Byrne’s exuberant musical road trip through Texas, in a Blu‐ray edition featuring the complete soundtrack on CD. Music icon David Byrne was inspired by tabloid headlines to make this sole foray into feature film directing, an ode to the extraordinariness of ordinary American life and a distillation of what was in his own idiosyncratic mind. Byrne plays a visitor to Virgil, Texas, who introduces us to the citizens of the town during preparations for its Celebration of Specialness. As shot by cinematographer Ed Lachman, Texas becomes a hyper‐realistic late‐capitalist landscape of endless vistas, shopping malls, and prefab metal buildings. In True Stories, Byrne uses his songs to stitch together pop iconography, voodoo rituals, and a singular variety show—all in the service of uncovering the rich mysteries that lurk under the surface of everyday experience. DIRECTOR‐APPROVED SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES: New, restored 4K digital transfer, supervised by director David Byrne and cinematographer Ed Lachman, with 5.1 surround DTS‐HD Master Audio soundtrack, supervised by Byrne New documentary about the film’s production, featuring members of the cast and crew CD with 23 songs, containing the film’s complete soundtrack, compiled here for the first time Real Life (1986), a short documentary by Pamela Yates and Newton Thomas Sigel made on the set of the film No Time to Look Back, a new homage to Virgil, Texas, the fictional town where True Stories is set New programme about designer Tibor Kalman and his influence on Byrne and role in the film, featuring Byrne and Kalman’s wife, artist Maira Kalman Deleted scenes Trailer PLUS: An essay by critic Rebecca Bengal, along with new pieces by journalist and author Joe Nick Patoski and Byrne, a 1986 piece by actor Spalding Gray on the film’s production, some of the tabloid stories that inspired the film, and a selection of Byrne’s pre‐production photography and writing about the film’s visual motifs

John Wayne Triple - True Grit/The Sons Of Katie...

True Grit: John Wayne earned the 1969 Best Actor Academy Award for his larger-than-life performance as the drunken, uncouth and totally fearless one-eyed U.S. Marshall, Rooster Cogburn. The cantankerous Rooster is hired by a headstrong young girl (Kim Darby) to find the man who murdered her father and fled with the family savings. When Cogburn's employer insists on accompanying the old gunfighter, sparks fly. Laughter and tears punctuate the wild action in this extraordinary Western which also features performances by Robert Duvall and Strother Martin. The Sons Of Katie Elder: Katie Elder bore four sons. The day she is buried they all return home to Clearwater, Texas, to pay their last respects. John Wayne is the eldest and toughest son, the gunslinger. Tom (Dean Martin) is good with a deck of cards and good with a gun when he has to be. Matt (Earl Holliman) is the quiet one - nobody ever called him yellow... twice. Bud (Michael Anderson, Jr.) is the youngest. Any hope for respectability lies with him. Directed by Henry Hathaway (True Grit), an acknowledged master of the western, the story has a dual theme; not only is this a he-man's story, but it is also a drama of the maternal influence of Katie Elder, movingly portrayed from beginning to conclusion. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance: Ranking with Stagecoach as one of the greatest of its genre, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is the modern-day Western to beat all Westerns. John Ford, whose very name is synonymous with Westerns, directed the ideal cast. Jimmy Stewart plays the bungling but charming big-city lawyer determined to rid the fair village of Shinbone of its number one nuisance and bad man: Liberty Valance (Lee Marvin). And as if all that weren't enough, the biggest star that ever aimed a six-shooter plays the man of the title: John Wayne. Super-sincere Stewart and rugged rancher Wayne also share the same love interest (Vera Miles). One gets the gunman but the other gets the gal., True Grit: John Wayne earned the 1969 Best Actor Academy Award for his larger-than-life performance as the drunken, uncouth and totally fearless one-eyed U.S. Marshall, Rooster Cogburn. In the Jewish ghetto in 16th century Prague, the community leader and astrologer Rabbi L¾w (Albert Steinrueck) foresees doom for his people written in the stars. A short time later the Emperor Luhois (Otto Gebuehr) issues an expulsion order to the people of the ghetto and they are to leave the city. In an attempt to save his people, L¾w creates a forbidding clay golem (Paul Wegener) that he brings to life with the assistance of a demon spirit and an amulet placed in the centre of the creature's chest. Subsequently the Golem saves the Emperor's life and the order is rescinded.Initially the Golem does nothing but good, but changes after L¾w's assistant Famulus (Ernst Deutsch) uses the creature to ward off Count Florian (Lothat M·thel), who is competing with him for the affections of the Rabbi's daughter, Miriam (Lyda Salmonova). Famulus tries to remove the amulet and to return the Golem to rest, but fails as the enraged creature embarks on a trail of destruction, burning L¾w's house and making off with Miriam; the whole community is threatened. The third film by actor and director Paul Wegener to feature the Golem, this is the most accomplished. Its influence can be seen in many later films, but in particular James Whale's Frankenstein. It is an excellent example of German Expressionism and an important contribution to the golden age of Weimar Cinema.

In modern times, crime and corruption has spread deep inside the city where everything - even the priesthood - can be bought for a price. From acclaimed director Stefano Sollima (Gomorrah, Romanzo Criminale and the forthcoming Sicario sequel, Soldado) and based on the novel co-written by Carlo Bonini & Giancarlo De Cataldo, SUBURRA takes place over seven days leading up to an Apocalypse as a former crime boss, known as Samurai , is instructed by corrupt Mafia families to use his influence to help turn the waterfront of Rome into a new Las Vegas. Elsewhere, after a night of excess leads to a young girl s death, politician Filippo Malgradi (Pierfrancesco Favino) becomes pivotal in a chain of events which see him drawn into a web woven by Samurai. As the countdown to the Apocalypse draws to a close, secrets are quickly unravelled as increasingly powerful gangsters become caught in the crossfire.
