Based on Norman Lindsay's controversial autobiographical 1935 novel, Age of Consent is the story of an artist (James Mason), grown tired of producing art for wealthy Americans, who moves to the wilds of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef where he meets Cora (Helen Mirren), a teenage girl who inspires him and becomes his muse – as well as the object of his desire. The penultimate film from the great Michael Powell (Black Narcissus, The Red Shoes, Peeping Tom) Age of Consent explores the obsessive nature of an artist approaching the twilight of his career. Misjudged and mis-handled on its initial release (when the distributor removed key scenes and re-scored the film), Age of Consent is now regarded as one of Powell’s key works. What do actors actually experience when they are acting in theatre? This study is a detailed and provocative examination of this not previously researched question. Using Whitehead, Levinas, Merleau-Ponty and other philosophers, psychologists and phenomenologists, this work gives a fascinating insight into the inner world of the actor. The study also looks at actor training and how this impacts performance experience. The study is jam packed with exciting new ideas, with lots of concept mapping and fascinating case studies. In all eight actors shared their stories about performing and the results are most surprising. In the study professional and experienced actors are compared to those who are in training and just beginning. This work is for anyone with a more than casual interest in performance studies, acting, actor training and what happens in the moments between actors and their audiences.

A multi scalar analysis of local responses to s...

This research is a multi scalar analysis of local responses to shifting paradigms in water management. It is an actor oriented study applying a political ecology framework that aims to demonstrate sometimes unforeseen and undesirable impacts of dominant approaches in water management using local narratives. It argues for a more localised approach incorporating the local responses to ensure sustainability and internalisation of the changes aimed at improving society for the benefit of the actors. The target populations would, in principle, recognise the benefits and accept them. The responses detailed in the case studies reveal disparities in the perceptions of the benefits between the target populations and the facilitators of improvement. They illustrate that real capacity and participation are lacking in most projects and programmes. They portray the paradigm shifts that occurs in a dual legal system balancing customary and common law and the manifestations of the modes of resource appropriation including clientelism, kinship, neighbourly relations, payment and leadership roles.

Triathlon has grown in the recent years tremendously. Therefore, it is important to gain more understanding for the environmental impact triathlon causes. The purpose of this study is to investigate the carbon footprint that is caused by transportation and travel behavior of triathletes. Moreover, the determining factors of the carbon footprint are examined. Data on distances to training, competition and training camps in the year 2015 was collected by an online survey in Germany (n=413). Using this information, the carbon footprint could be calculated to ascertain the amount of emissions of triathletes. Results show that triathletes comparatively have a high carbon footprint (Mean: 774kg CO2-e).This topic revealed the need for action in strengthening the environmental awareness of every involved actor. Furthermore, there should be more either individually or organizationally driven initiatives to minimize environmental impacts such as carbon offsetting or carpooling.

Eureka Entertainment to release COMING HOME; Hal Ashby’s compelling and emotional tale of love and loss, starring Jane Fonda, Jon Voight and Bruce Dern; as part of The Masters of Cinema Series for the first time on Blu-ray in the UK on 15 July 2019. Perhaps the most compelling picture ever made about the shattering aftermath of the Vietnam War. Coming Home earned eight Academy Award nominations and won three for Best Actress (Jane Fonda), Actor (Jon Voight), and Original Screenplay. Coming Home is an uncompromising, extraordinarily moving film directed by the great Hal Ashby (Harold & Maude). When Marine Captain Bob Hyde (Bruce Dern) leaves for Vietnam, his wife Sally (Fonda) volunteers at a local hospital. There she meets Luke Martin (Voight), a former sergeant whose war injury has left him a paraplegic. The relationship transforms Sally’s feelings about life, love and the horrors of war. And when, wounded and disillusioned, Sally’s husband returns home, all three must grapple with the full impact of a brutal, distant war that has changed their lives forever. Between Chaos and Sclerosis

This study examines the stability of legislative decisions in the European Union before and after enlargement and after the possible entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty. Stability of decisions is analysed both in terms of a risk of decision cycles and in terms of the frequency of gridlock situations. The risk of such chaotic' decisions depends on three parameters, the applied decision rules, the dimensionality of the conflict space and the heterogeneity of actor preferences. Dietrich Drüner uses the concepts of the core and the winset, which stem from spatial voting and veto players theory and which incorporate the three parameters. Testing these concepts against a data set about 70 legislative proposals, Dietrich Drüner generates empirical findings about the impacts of enlargement and institutional reform on the EU's decision-making processes. This book is intended for scholars of European integration and politics as well as policy makers at both the European and the national level.

The Graduate - 50th Anniversary Edition
Topseller

50th ANNIVERSARY EDITION – BRAND NEW RESTORATION A complete sensation on its original release in 1967, THE GRADUATE was a one-of-a-kind cinematic portrait of America which captured the mood of disaffected youth seething beneath the laid-back exterior of 1960s California. It earned Mike Nichols a Best Director Oscar, introduced the music of Simon & Garfunkel to a wider audience and featured one of the most famous seductions in movie history and a truly iconic final scene. THE GRADUATE also introduced the world to a young actor named Dustin Hoffman, perfectly cast as the jaw-droppingly naïve Benjamin. Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) has just finished college and is already lost in a sea of confusion as he wonders what to do with his life. He returns to his parents’ luxurious Beverly Hills home, where he idles away the summer floating in the pool and brooding in silence. He is rescued from the boredom when he is seduced into a clandestine affair with a middle-aged married friend of his parents, Mrs Robinson (Anne Bancroft). That liaison is soon complicated by Benjamin’s infatuation with her college-age daughter Elaine (Katharine Ross). Visually imaginative and impeccably acted, with a witty, endlessly quotable script by Calder Willingham and Buck Henry (based on the novel by Charles Webb), with a supporting cast that includes William Daniels, Murray Hamilton, Walter Brooke and Elizabeth Wilson, THE GRADUATE had the kind of cultural impact that comes along only once in a generation.
