This is a story from the In the Ravine and Other Stories collection. Anton Chekhov, one of the finest masters of what is acknowledged as a difficult genre. There is the richly comic ´´Oh! The Public´´ about a hassled ticket inspector, a wry look at morals and manners in ´´The Chorus Girl´´, and the melancholic tale of a cab driver in ´´Misery´´. Perhaps the finest of all is the novella ´´In The Ravine´´, a minutely observed look at life in a village through the eyes of one family. All the characters come to life with their foibles, their strengths, and their hopes. Kenneth Branagh uses his natural talent for characterisation to bring this village to life. The other short stories in this collection are: ´´The Trousseau´´, ´´A Story Without a Title´´, ´´Children´´, ´´Fat and Thin´´, ´´The Beggar´´, ´´Hush!´´, ´´The Orator´´, and ´´An Actor´s End´´. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Kenneth Branagh. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/naxo/000863de/bk_rhde_002536_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

Local State Institutional Reforms in Ghana - Ac...

This study examines local institutional reforms frequently conceived as a panacea for accountable and responsive local institutions that engender change and prosperity in Ghana. Currently, this assumption is often made without recourse to how policymakers pursue these institutional changes in everyday situations. While the link between local democracy and poverty reduction remains largely rhetorical, it still persists because no clear distinction is made between local political reforms, local autonomy and local socio-economic change. Using an actor-centered institutional framework, this study offers critical insights into how local policymakers take advantage of institutional reforms to advance their own interests at the expense of specific local priorities and socio-economic change. Matthew Sabbi is a Fritz Thyssen Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at the Chair of Development Sociology, University of Bayreuth, Germany. His research focuses on the analysis of local political reforms and local public policy in the Global South particularly in Ghana.

Boost morale and productivity by leading with respect The Respectful Leader presents an engaging, thought-provoking lesson for companies seeking off-the-charts performance. Author Gregg Ward draws on 25 years of leadership consulting, coaching and training experience to reveal the secret to great results: respect. In this true-to-life business fable, he shares the story of Des Hogan, a CEO who discovers that disrespectful behavior on the part of his leadership team is eating away at his companys morale, productivity, and profits. At a loss for a solution, he meets Grace-a straight-shooting, self-described little old lady in the maintenance department. With her no-nonsense advice, he sets out to revamp the culture and turn his company around; but first, he has to turn inward and realize that his own behavior sets the tone for the company at every level. This enlightening, engaging and honest story will help you recognize and analyze your own behaviors and interactions, and show you how to create a winning culture based on leading with respect. Intimidation, micro-management and insecurity do not drive top-level performance. True success is built on free-flowing, trusted, and open collaboration between departments, levels, and specialties. This book shows you how to build respect among the ranks-from the top down. Learn the key respectful leadership behaviors that significantly impact morale Learn how to adjust your own, and others, attitudes to boost productivity, teamwork, and profits Benefit personally and professionally by leading from a place of mutual respect and consideration People perform best when they feel valued and valuable. And, when they are respected for their experience, talents and skills, theyll become personally invested in outcomes-both short- and long-term-and consistently go the extra mile. Respectful leadership ignites passion, innovation, creativity, and efficiency, while control-based leadership and intimidation breeds complacency and mediocrity. Which environment would better serve your company? The Respectful Leader shows you how to achieve sustainable success with a simple behavioral paradigm shift.
