This book helps to better understand how the interaction between local and international peacebuilding actors influences the outcomes of their programs. Based on the case study of Ituri in the Democratic Republic of Congo, it analyses the relationship between local and international peacebuilding actors over the long term and assesses ways to overcome the obstacles to more cooperative partnerships. Focusing on perceptions, the book nuances existing definitions of war, peacebuilding and peace and allows for a more comprehensive understanding of conflict contexts. Thereby, it contributes to the literature on peacebuilding effectiveness and makes concrete suggestions for translating these findings into practice.
There is no general consensus about how Shakespeare ´´should´´ be played. There are no rules. But, while the Bard created superhuman characters and placed them in situations that stretch the imagination to its limits, he also provided his actors with the keys to playing them. In A Shakespearean Actor Prepares, actor, director and teacher Adrian Brine teams up with celebrated actor Michael York to reveal these keys. In pointing out sources of energy in Shakespeare´s plays, they make it possible for an actor to galvanize his fantasy - and liberate his talent. Shakespeare knew more about the art of acting and the art of theater than any other playwright. Discover his secrets in this remarkable guide. Language: English. Narrator: Michael York. This book considers the principal challenges facing the European Union, which has been buffeted by a series of profound crises, both internal and external. These range from the future of Ukraine, the Unions reactions to Chinas One Belt, One Road initiative, how to help stabilize countries to its south, and relations with the United States. The core argument is that the EU lacks a meta-narrative that could indicate priorities and linkages between the various continental, regional, national and thematic strategies. As a result, the EU often appears to be a confusing and even contradictory actor to many international partners. In response to these challenges the EU needs to develop a deeper sense of strategic awareness and confidence so that it may give a more convincing response to fundamental questions about the Unions role, purpose and identity in a changing world. Simon Duke is Professor of European Policies at the European Institute of Public Administration. He is also a Senior Research Fellow at Maastricht University, the Netherlands. He is Executive Editor of the Journal of European Integration .
Jesper Trier Gissel began training film actors at Nørgaards Højskole in 2006. He soon took his point of departure in the simple but powerful, intuitive approach developed by Harold Guskin and dedicated his work to develop a course which could stay as true as possible to Guskins principles while accomodating a classroom full of actors. The Generous Actor contains a complete description of the course he now teaches (including his exercise flow choreography) and also his thoughts on art and acting developed over years of both academic studies, acting, and especially training actors. At this point Gissel has turned out a number of actors appearing and starring in Danish television and movie theatres and has established an solid network of directors, actors, casters, and producers in the Danish movie and television business. The Generous Actor also contains endorsements from a number of actors, directors, and acting coaches calling Gissels work, useful and liberating for readers and actors, a non-method that avoids the restraining rules of technique and liberates the artistic creativity of the individual and no bullshit acting.Among these are Danish Academy Award Nominee , Claes Quaade and life-long producer/director, Steen Herdel.
